As you know, I am a big fan of Central Saint Martins. To me, it could exist by itself as a branding that guarantees quality and creativity. I remember reading an interview with Hussein Chalayan by Style.com recently where he said, “The other big point for me was that Saint Martins was really an art school where fashion happened to be a department in it.”
How apt that is. Creating art using the fashion point of view. I just love it. Ellinor Malmgren, being an alumni of Central Saint Martins, seems to have her own distinct point of view too. Her pieces are dedicated to craftsmanship, a point which she attributes to the fact that her father and grandfather are both architects.
Her designs elude a sense of masculinity and structure that is a little dark and mysterious. Her styling options create a very rustic and mechanical feel that adds to the overall look.
To end off, I’d just like to put the focus on the shoes. I love how the proportion is somehow distorted by the additional back panel along the heel. See her interview witth Dazed and Confused here.
