The Japanese never cease to amaze

I would jump at ANY opportunity to visit such an exhibition. By now, I think it’s obvious I love Japanese fashion.

While we are on the topic of art / fashion exhibitions (see previous entry), this is the first exhibition in Europe to comprehensively survey avant-garde Japanese fashion from the early 1980s to the present. Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion is curated by fashion historian Akiko Fukai, Director of the Kyoto Costume Institute.

It explores the unique sensibility of Japanese design, and its sense of beauty embodied in clothing. Designers featured include the masters, as well as younger designers such as Tao Kurihara, Fumito Ganryu, Matohu, Akira Naka, Mina Perhonen and Mintdesigns.

The exhibition is held at Barbican Art Gallery from 15 October 2010 to 6 February 2011.

I’ll let the installation shots speak for themselves.
