Ballet- dance into 2011

Before you start thinking that I am urging all of you to take up ballet, let me just reassure you that that is in no way my intention. All I am saying is, ballet-inspired dressing may just be the next big thing this year.

With the exhibition on Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballet Russes, 1909-1929 that had just ended at the V & A museum, the products of talented designers and artists like Stravinsky, Chanel, Picasso, Matisse and Nijinsky must have stirred up an excitement for all things ballet.

Personally, I loved the costumes worn by the ballerinas in The Black Swan, which starred Natalie Portman as the main lead. Designed by the Rodarte sisters, I think it’s a great collaboration that fuses art and fashion together. Looking at the sketches to the realization of the designs on screen, it’s simply amazing!

Beautiful isn’t it.

I would think part of the beauty of ballet is telling a story without words, instead everything is expressed in the movement of the body. All that, combined with the delicate and intricately made costumes, makes it so magical!

Guess who else is in the ballerina wagon!

BCBG Max Azria- Prima Holiday 2010 collection. So frilly and light! Love it!

Sure sets the mood for the new year. May everyone have a dancing new year!
