Up & Coming: Thomas Tait

Black eludes mystery, charm  and an unexplainable cool-factor.

In collections, I tend to look for colours because the details show better in photographs and black would kill the photo, hiding all the details, if any. Hence, it makes logical sense to play with the silhouette when using black as the only colour in the collection as Thomas Tait did with his Masters collection at Central Saint Martins.

Much as the focus may be on the garment, the shoe design is also eye-catching, mirroring the same quirky structure the garments hold.

He was the youngest person to have graduated from the Masters course at the age of 22. Such clean lines and exquisite taste.

His aesthetic for his second collection still involves odd shapes and structure. A subtle addition of white, grays and dark blue.

What I’m excited about is his collaboration with ASOS for handbags. I loved the shoes he created for his graduation collection and it will be so interesting to see what he can churn out for ASOS Inc line.

There’s also an interesting interview with the designer by ELLE here.
