The Art of Fashion- Mary Katrantzou

One of my all time favourite designers is Mary Katrantzou, who enchanted me with her use of whimsical kaleidoscopic prints time and time again. This time round, she is showing some of her past works plus a preview of her Autumn 2011 collection at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in celebration of their 20th Anniversary with the event Twenty: Celebrating 20 Years of the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

To be able to showcase her past works as a ‘retrospective ‘ is truly amazing, considering that her first collection was created in 2009, a mere 2 years ago. My favourite collection to date is still her debute collection inspired by perfume bottles, though I must add that her collections inspired by per Fabergé eggs, Meissen china and l8th century interiors were just as interesting.

The display has since been moved to Brown Thomas’s display window.

I found some fascinating images from her lookbook.

It’s absolutely gorgeous! Love how everything is done such that it looks like a painting. All the rich intense colours and the choice of backdrop. The blue hair is genius!

  1. a career retrospective already? yeesh. She IS amazingly talented and unique so I suppose it’s fair. If I were to be in the area I’d definitely go see the exhibit.
