Christopher Shannon: Casual wear that looks smart

I like British menswear.  I don’t know why but I like it a lot.  It takes less for men to look good (I think, compared to women) but so few make the effort.  Choosing your own style and then selecting designers with the same vision is the first step and sometimes, that’s all it takes.

Christopher Shannon is one such British menswear designer I admire.  He describes his style perfectly, “My collections feature performance fabrics, clean silhouettes and just the right amount of drama.”  A graduate of MA Menswear at Central Saint Martins, Shannon first received the NEWGEN MEN sponsorship in Autumn/Winter 2010 and has been a recipient every season after.  Since graduating Shannon has continued to refine his sportswear orientated aesthetic whilst working on collaborative projects with Topman, Eastpak, Asos and Reebok.

Selected looks from S/S2012 below.  I like how casual fabrics are used to present a slightly more formal look.  This is casual wear that is furthest from sloppy; in my opinion, something Southeast Asian men desperately need to adopt.
