A collection that will take you from [DUSK till DAWN]

My series on Thai fashion labels continues and this is one whose collection is simple, understated, functional and affordable, all at the same time.  [DUSK till DAWN] combines theoretical design with practical functionality and its signature is its loose fitting blouses with edgy details and sharp-cut tailoring.  I’m glad I managed to grab a couple of them during my trip.

I like the label for its unconventional fabric choices (cotton and linen together) and conceptual designs.

The label’s designer, Pimnutchaya Liptawat, earned her Master’s Degree in Fashion Designs from Instituto Marangoni, London, UK in 2007 with specialisation in Womenswear and Handcraft Techniques.  She also worked on McQ by Alexander McQueen as an assistant designer in womenswear section and has architecture and industrial design background, which explains a lot when you look at her designs.  In 2009, the designer finally opened her first flagship store at Siam Center, Bangkok.

She explained, “…my design’s direction is largely based on art and philosophy and on my own experiences. These influences are all hidden behind my designs, as I don’t want to impose these on my customers to; I prefer them to have space for their own imagination. I won’t let my design overcome their personality.”

Siam Center will reopen next month after a grand revamp.  Time to make another trip to the land of smiles.
